So, you have finally decided to lighten hair with hydrogen peroxide. Do not forget to wear protective eye gear while performing home hair bleaching, after all, safety is the first priority. And one word of caution is that if you have a very sensitive skin and often manifest allergic reactions to chemicals, consider consulting a hair expert before you actually proceed with hair bleaching procedure. The required supplies and steps for bleaching hair with hydrogen peroxide are discussed below:
Required Supplies
- Clean spray bottle
- 3 percent hydrogen peroxide
- Cotton ball
- Protective eye gear
- Hand gloves
- Good hair conditioner
Steps # 1
Prepare yourself before you proceed for hair bleaching with hydrogen peroxide; put eye glasses and hand gloves. You can wear a loose fitting old shirt, so that even if the peroxide drips and spoils the fabric, you won't mind much. In a clean spray bottle (preferably a brand new one), fill the 3 percent hydrogen peroxide solution.
Steps # 2
If you want to highlight strands, separate the specific parts. Then, dip a cotton ball in hydrogen peroxide and rub over the parts. For lightening hair as a whole, you can randomly divide in sections and cover one section at a time. Or else, spray the peroxide solution thoroughly to cover all the hair strands.
Steps # 3
After hydrogen peroxide application, you need to leave the solution in the hair for a specific period to bring the desired shade. However, the length of time depends on your natural hair shade (very dark require longer treatment and vice versa) and the final shade that you preferred (the lighter you want, the longer is the treatment time).
Steps # 4
Most people get good results after leaving hydrogen peroxide in the hair for 45 - 60 minutes. You can wash a few hair strands after about 30 minutes and check the color. Wash hair if you are comfortable with the shade or leave for another 15 minutes (if required). In between, if you experience any irritation or unusual signs, immediately go and rinse your hair and scalp with cool water.
Steps # 5
After washing with cool water, treat your hair deeply with a good conditioner. This hair care tip is essential to restore natural shine and softness. Take some time to massage the scalp and wash remains of peroxide (if any). Then, rinse with cold water again. This way, you can bleach your hair with hydrogen peroxide.
